Dear Gordon

Dear Gordon

This past winter in Florida was an unusual one. There were weeks of cooler temperatures – so cool that we were able to sleep with our AC off and windows open. Wonderful to feel the evening breezes and to wake to birdsong. In particular, we had a very noisy cardinal and his mate. They have lots to chat about every morning. As we had coffee in the lanai, we would often see him singing out from the palm tree. As you had held the belief that a cardinal was a visit from one who has passed on, he became you to us. It was nice to feel you near.

We were not able to attend the celebration of life in person and were in virtual attendance with Sarah, Irene & Maddy, Steve & Janice, Carla and another couple from Florida. Alex did a terrific job pulling it together with Bernice. It was wonderful to hear stories from your brother, Sharon, Michelle, and Zirka. When it came to us, Brien spoke first. As he was speaking about meeting you and the years of work done together, he started to get choked up. Emotion overtook him as he handed it to me. It was impossible at this point to speak coherently. I spoke of frequently hearing your voice in my mind – ‘Hey kiddo’ – and then the tears took over. You would have been so proud of Bernice. She spoke beautifully.

It is impossible to put into words how much you meant to me and Brien. Our friendship, and the work trials, innovation and craftsmanship you brought to company barely scratch the surface. I am so grateful we had our daily happy hour on the porch at Moy. You will forever be in my days at happy hour. Until our next shared happy hour… Rest In Peace, dear friend.
