An attitude of gratitude brings great things. Yogi Bhajan
One year ago today, my mother was assaulted on her morning walk. It was a random and violent act in downtown Windsor. https://windsorstar.com/news/local-news/as-downtown-windsor-attacker-walks-painful-recovery-continues-for-elderly-victim-85
My brother, his wife and 3 children cared for SinJa at home during the year. It was not an easy year. SinJa fell multiple times, pressure in her brain was undiagnosed and untreated until October of 2023. Surgery, followed by rehab.
Fast forward to April 2024, cognitive symptoms begin to show up. She has challenges with time, her memory declines and her emotional states are heightened. Symptoms appear similar to dementia. However, her doctor does not believe it is dementia as the onset of dementia is usually slower and more progressive – not sudden as it is with SinJa.
In May, she was hospitalized and a lumbar drain put into her spine. There seems to be some relief for her. This results in an additional surgery for a stent to be put into her brain and brain trauma rehab. She is currently in rehab and has been hospitalized for close to 6 weeks.
We are so grateful for the care that she has received. I’m sure it has been challenging for the many nurses who have been caring for her during this time.
I am also so grateful to all the people who responded to the Gofundme campaign set up for her. Whether the response was a note, a donation, a phone call or food, it was all so very appreciated. Each and every response truly meant so much to myself, and my brother and his family.
Today on the year anniversary, an update to the Gofundme campaign was posted – in Korean. The campaign and 2 Windsor Star articles were translated and shared in the campaign. It is our hope that great things will come out of this campaign, not only for SinJa, but for others as well.
