I first heard of Tim Minchin while in St Lucia. We were at the Villa with the country mice and Uncle Stu was going to be joining us. Having recently broken up with his girlfriend, we were thinking of ways we could cheer him up. The country mice shared a YouTube video with us from Tim Minchin. It was a funny song titled, “If I didn’t have you.” and felt like the perfect remedy.
An instant hit for us, I don’t recall Uncle Stu’s reaction when we shared it with him. For a few years, we would watch the video with others who found themselves single. I don’t think it was really appreciated as much as we hoped it would be.
Today, I watched Tim Minchin’s official video of Not Perfect, released 7 months ago, not realizing it is a song he performed over 14 years ago. I loved the video, the lyrics, and the fractal nature of his thinking.
Grateful for
the country mice who introduced us to Tim Minchin,
his songs that can bring a tear to my eye, and make me laugh,
and for the timelessness of his music.
