We don’t remember days, we remember moments. – Cesare Pavese
Back in March we spent an evening remembering being 17. One of the things I remembered was being part of the high school production of Guys & Dolls. I was the music director and played piano in a four-piece band, I think. Moments I once thought I would never forget remain, although the details are foggy.
That evening, I went online to see what shows were on in Stratford for the summer, when we’d be nearby. Guys & Dolls. Tickets booked.
Today was the day of our matinee. MAO found us a lovely spot for lunch, The Common — we’ll definitely be back. After lunch we made our way to the theatre. It was a perfect spring day, lovely to walk through the gardens in front of the theatre and watch people milling about in the park.
Absolutely loved the show. The dancing was incredible, and the staging, acting, and singing were all terrific. The score was familiar, and I realized there was a lot of the plot I never picked up on as a high schooler. I enjoyed the “new” experience of an old favourite.
Grateful for a date with MAO in Stratford, so nice to have a delicious lunch and see a show. Grateful for having been part of Guys & Dolls so long ago – and for the band in high school breaking into reggae when the power briefly cut the music mid-dance in the Havana scene!
