When things go wrong, don’t go with them. – Elvis Presley
I was excited to have a townhouse booked downtown through AirBnB from May to October.
The combination of downtown life, time at maoVee, and days at Idlewild felt appealing. While we did not really know exactly how it would work out, we were confident that we could make it work.
What we had not anticipated was that the AirBnB townhouse would be unacceptable as a place to be.
With each step into the booking, my heart sank deeper into disappointment. We silently carried all our belongings up the many stairs, then unpacked our kitchen items (picked up at Idlewild on the drive in), along with our personal things.
What was wrong with it?
It was very clearly not well maintained. Cabinet doors were hanging off hinges, large screen doors and windows were dirty. We could see dusty floors as we walked up to the first floor. Toilet paper holders fell off the wall. And perhaps the final straw was the linen drawer: nothing folded, just linens shoved in.
With everything unpacked, we walked over to Liberty Village to find the Telus store, as we needed to address our mobile phone data requirements. After a 90 minute wait, we got it done.
Egads. This was not the return I had been imagining.
La Fenice saved the day.
A long time favorite of ours, with Roberto who always remembers and takes such great care of us, it was the perfect place to end the day as we considered our next steps.
It was a tough day.
I am grateful that we have options. Grateful that we do not have to stick it out with the booking. And so grateful for my mate, who always calmly works through challenging situations with me.
