When Yahoo Answers was first released,
three dickenses posted a question.
“Can you have intimacy with no attachment?”
Never forgot one of the answers that came in…
“I define intimacy as ‘in to see me’.”
Sharing this in conversation prompted looking up the latin origin of intimacy.
The word “intimacy” stems from the Latin intimatus, to make something known to someone else. (Another derivation is the verb “intimate,” which originally meant “to notify.”) In its original meaning, in other words, intimacy did not mean emotional closeness, but the willingness to pass on honest information. Grateful today
for my first botched attempt at barbecuing,
the patience of my 2 dinner companions.
and this evening’s personal and intimate sharings.
